Working for the transformation of the world by assisting in the awakening and deepening of faith

The Cenacle Sisters is an international congregation whose mission is the awakening and deepening of faith through retreats, spiritual direction, and faith education and formation. The Cenacle congregation was founded in 1826 in France by Saint Thérèse Couderc and Fr. Stephen Terme. Since 1828 the Cenacle Sisters have been using the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola in their ministries of accompaniment and formation. Cenacle Sisters are present in France, Italy, England, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Madagascar, Togo, the Philippines, Singapore, Macau and Brazil.

The Cenacle journey to Asia began in 1967, when the first Filipina Cenacle Sisters arrived in Manila from the United States. The Cenacle Region of Asia is composed of communities in the Philippines and Singapore, and a Cenacle presence in  Macau.

VISION
Cenacle Sisters Asia Region

MISSION
Cenacle Sisters Asia Region

As a Region, we are vibrant communities of prayer and hospitality afire with the Spirit to make Jesus known and loved, responding to the cries of the people of Asia towards transformation.

Formed in the mystery of the Cenacle, and in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, and founded on Saint Thérèse Couderc’s vision of goodness and her self-surrender, we, the Cenacle Sisters of Asia, respond to the cries of our people for integral human development.

As women of prayer, we are communities of discernment, hospitality, and inclusivity, ministering through retreats, spiritual direction, education in the faith, and formation in critical consciousness.

CENACLE RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAM FOR RETREAT AND SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

This ten-month residency program, offered by the Cenacle Sisters at the Cenacle Retreat House in Manila, is designed to train religious and lay women from China, Vietnam, Myanmar, and other countries in Asia to become retreat and spiritual directors in their home countries. The program offers various courses in human and spiritual development. The highlight of the program is a 30-day retreat experience facilitated by the Cenacle Sisters, and the study of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

The Cenacle Residency Program for Retreat and Spiritual Direction began in 2006 with its first batch of 6 Chinese participants. At present, there are 10 participants accepted every year. The program includes several modules on human formation (Self-Awareness and Development) and spirituality, as well as modules on Safeguarding of Minors and Vulnerable Adults, Servant Leadership, Pastoral Leadership and Management, and training and practicum on spiritual direction and retreat facilitation. There will also be experiences of retreats, including the 30-day on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, and ongoing spiritual direction.

The program usually starts in August and ends in June of the following year. Applications are welcome all year round.

The program is open to religious and lay women who are from China, Vietnam, Myanmar and other countries with repressed and/or struggling churches. Priority is given to diocesan congregations, but those from international congregations may also be accepted on a case-to-case basis. We look for women with the potential for leadership and/or have formation responsibilities in their congregations or local churches.
